About

Dr. Geoffrey Mboya is a mathematician working in algebraic geometry, with a focus on threefold fibrations and geometric classification. He holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford (2023) under supervision of Prof Balázs SzendrÅ‘i and Prof Dominic Joyce [Oct-Dec 2018 and Oct-Dec 2022], an MSc in Pure Mathematics (2018), and a First-Class Honours degree in Mathematics (2016) from the University of Nairobi. He has held research positions at Oxford, Trinity College Cambridge, and the University of Vienna.

In 2024, he joined IDEMS International CIC as a Read More Here

Research

My research focuses on constructing and classifying complex algebraic varieties, particularly threefolds fibered by surfaces over low-dimensional spaces. I study their singularities, deformations, and rational curves, aiming to develop tools for analyzing bigraded rings (e.g., Cox rings) in relative projective bundles. Key goals include proving vanishing theorems, exploring moduli spaces of K3-fibered threefolds, and advancing classification theory for threefold families, with implications for finiteness problems in Calabi-Yau threefolds. This builds on my doctoral thesis which generalized results for K3-fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds and opened new research directions. Here are my Publications and Preprints.
